The need
Shahdra is where Lahore begins. The G.T. Road, the motorway and the traffic of half of Punjab meet the city here, across the Ravi from the old city. Millions pass this interchange, and many more live around it.
Yet for the people of this gateway, serious care has always meant crossing the river and crossing the city. The hardest hours of a family's life have started with the longest journeys.
Sunshine Healthcare is the answer to that distance. Four hundred beds, planned at the interchange itself, with emergency, cardiac sciences, maternity, surgery, dialysis and full in-house diagnostics under one roof.
The vision
The tenth floor of the tower says what Sunshine wants to become. A 100 seat auditorium, a library, a board room and training spaces are drawn into the plans alongside the wards and theatres, because a hospital that teaches keeps its standards alive.
The founders' vision reaches further: a nursing college, and in time a medical school, so the institution can grow the clinicians this region needs rather than wait for them to arrive. These are ambitions, stated plainly as ambitions, and the building is designed so they have somewhere to happen.
The academy
The long ambition is a campus, not just a tower: an institution that trains the nurses, technicians and doctors this region needs. The building is designed for it from day one, and the path is planned in phases, stated plainly as ambitions.
The tenth floor opens with a 100 seat auditorium, library, board room and training spaces. Clinical teaching, case conferences and certification programs run in the building from the start.
A nursing college and allied health programs, so the hospital trains the workforce it depends on: theatre, ICU, dialysis and imaging professionals grown here, not imported.
In time, a full medical college alongside the hospital, with the wards, theatres and diagnostics of the tower as its teaching floors. The founders' furthest ambition, and the reason the institution is built to outlast them.
Leadership
Sunshine Healthcare is founded by a team of senior clinicians led by a consultant cardiologist, people who have spent their careers in the wards, clinics and theatres this region depends on. They are building the hospital they would want for their own patients. Names, appointments and department heads will be published here as they are confirmed.
The long view
Institutions outlive their founders when they pass their standards on. Sunshine is planned to treat from its first day and to teach for the decades after, at the gateway where Lahore meets the rest of Punjab.
